How to become a Ground Team Member
First
In order to participate in Emergency Services, you must have completed Achievement 1 (cadets) or Level 1 (seniors).
Second
If you have not already done so, take the General Emergency Services test (CAPT 116). You must complete both the General ES and the ICS-100 tests. You may take both tests combined into one (complete) or you may take them separate. You can take the test on-line by going here. After completing the test, please let the squadron ES officer know you passed the test. Also, download and print CAPF 114 - CAP ES Qualification Record. This will help you keep track of training and missions you attend.
Third
Download the GTM training materials and review them. Ground team training is task based which means that normal functions that you would perform (like using a compass) will be evaluated by an evaluator. The GT Reference Text and the GT Taskbook explain what you are responsible to know and explain how to do the particular task. The CAPF 101T-GTM is your training record. Each task is signed off on the form and at the completion of all tasks and two exercise missions, you are eligible to become qualified. Note: The CAPF 101T-GTM must be endorsed by the Squadron Commander in order to begin training. Below are links to download commonly used training materials.
Please note:
There are a few requirements before you can become GTM qualified. Here is a list of what you will need to complete.
CAP Basic Communicator User Training (to receive a Radio Operator Authorization - Basic card)
Standard First Aid (or equivalent) or higher first aid training. (CPR Training may be a prerequisite to take Standard First Aid)
